Autism Resource Centre
This resource centre was created to help support the carers of autistic individuals, as well as autistic individuals and their family members looking for their options when it comes to care. You may be currently looking to employ a personal assistant to support an autistic individual in their daily routine, or you may be a carer looking for more information on what kind of support you can provide and what services may be available to you.
Below, you’ll find a number of free resources designed to support autistic individuals and their carers.
Autism Facts
In the UK, approximately 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with autism. An estimated 700,000 individuals live with the condition, including children and adults – although it is thought that many adults may be autistic but undiagnosed. Autism is a spectrum condition, which means it affects individuals differently. Whilst many autistic individuals live completely independent lives, others may need significant support in their day-to-day lives.
There are various services available to support autistic individuals through the NHS, local authorities, and charities. In some cases, a family member or friend may serve as a carer for an autistic individual who needs additional support. However, others may need a higher level of support in the way of a paid carer, often organised via direct payments.
This resource centre is designed with both paid carers and unemployed carers of autistic individuals in mind.
